Sacraments

"Angels round our altars bow to search it out, in vain."
– Charles Wesley

Holy Baptism
is the Sacrament by which we are adopted as God’s children, made members of Christ's Body, the Church, and inheritors of the kingdom of God. Parents who wish to present their children to receive this sacrament should contact the office for dates and the clergy for advice. Holy Baptism is normally administered during the regular worship services. It is expected that Baptism will be planned only for those who are faithful communicants of this parish, who are in regular attendance and participate in the life of St. Francis. Baptismal instruction is required of all parents and godparents.
Although infant baptism is the ancient practice of this Church, it is by no means the only practice. Older candidates who wish to receive the Sacrament of Holy Baptism are invited and encouraged to open discussion and preparation with the clergy.

Holy Eucharist is the sacrament by which we receive the body and blood of Christ in consecrated bread and wine for the forgiveness of our sins and the strengthening of our union with Christ and one another.
All baptized persons are welcome to receive Holy Communion at Saint Francis Church. The Service of Holy Eucharist is celebrated every Sunday at Saint Francis and every Wednesday in the chapel. For more information on services, click here.

The rite of Confirmation is administered generally once a year to those who wish to make a mature affirmation of their faith and commitment to Christ and to the promises made at baptism. We receive strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer and the laying on of hands by the Bishop. It is required of those to be confirmed that they have been baptized, are sufficiently instructed in the Christian faith and are ready to affirm the confession of Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. Inquirers' Classes, led by the clergy, are offered to teenage and adult candidates. Persons who were baptized in another Christian tradition are urged to seek Confirmation. Contact the church office at 301-365-2055 for more information.

St. Francis and the clergy are available to perform Weddings and Funeral Services for parishioners and their families. Pre-marital counseling is necessary for weddings, and an appointment with a priest must be met before a commitment to a wedding at St. Francis can be scheduled, assuming the approval of the Rector. Contact the clergy to inquire, preferably by speaking to a priest following your participation at worship in a Sunday service.
